About this class
Bini (also known as Edo) is a vibrant and historically significant language spoken by millions of people in Edo State, Nigeria, and diaspora communities worldwide. Whether you have Bini heritage and want to reconnect with your roots, or you're simply passionate about learning an African language, this beginner course offers a warm, structured, and engaging pathway into the language. Over 12 live online sessions of 60 minutes each, you will progressively build your ability to communicate in Bini. Starting with pronunciation and the alphabet, you'll move through greetings, everyday vocabulary, sentence construction, and basic reading and writing skills. Each session builds naturally on the last, so you gain confidence and momentum as you go. This course uses conversation practice, guided writing exercises, listening activities, and interactive games to make learning enjoyable and effective. You'll have plenty of opportunities to speak and be heard, ask questions in real time, and practice with your instructor and fellow learners in a supportive online environment. By the end of the course, you'll be able to hold basic conversations in Bini, read simple written texts, and write short sentences — giving you a meaningful foundation to continue growing your language skills and deepen your connection to Bini culture and heritage.

Practical Project
My Bini Language Portfolio
Over the course of the 12 sessions, learners will compile a personal Bini Language Portfolio that showcases their growing ability to speak, read, and write in Bini. The portfolio will include written compositions, recorded spoken samples, vocabulary lists, and a final reflective piece.
Expected result: Learners will produce a complete Bini Language Portfolio containing: a vocabulary journal with at least 100 words and phrases, two audio/video recordings demonstrating spoken Bini, two written compositions demonstrating correct use of Bini script and grammar, and a personal reflection. The portfolio will demonstrate measurable progress from basic greetings in Session 1 to composing and narrating original sentences and short stories by Session 12.

Prerequisites
