About this class

Etsako is a rich and vibrant language spoken by the Etsako people of Edo State, Nigeria. This course is a unique opportunity to learn, preserve, and celebrate this beautiful language in a structured, supportive, and age-sensitive environment. Whether you are a complete beginner or someone who grew up hearing Etsako at home but never formally learned it, this course meets you exactly where you are. Designed specifically for three age groups — Kids (5–10), Teens (11–17), and Adults (18+) — each session is tailored to use age-appropriate vocabulary, activities, and teaching methods. Children will engage through songs, stories, and games; teens will explore conversational phrases and cultural context; and adults will develop practical communication skills alongside reading and writing fluency. All learners follow a shared progression that builds speaking, reading, and writing skills session by session. Over 12 live, interactive sessions of 60 minutes each, learners will move from mastering the sounds and alphabet of Etsako, through everyday vocabulary and grammar, to forming complete sentences and holding simple conversations. The curriculum blends oral practice, writing exercises, and reading activities to ensure well-rounded language development. Every session is designed for live online delivery, with engaging activities that encourage participation and real-time feedback from the instructor. By the end of this course, learners of all ages will have a solid foundation in Etsako — able to introduce themselves, navigate everyday conversations, read simple texts, and write basic sentences. More than a language class, this is a celebration of Etsako identity, heritage, and community.

What we'll do

  • Echo and repeat pronunciation drills with instructor modeling native Etsako sounds
  • Live role-play scenarios simulating real-life conversations (market, greetings, home visits)
  • Alphabet and vocabulary bingo games using Etsako letters and words
  • Age-differentiated group activities: tracing and drawing for kids, writing and discussion for teens and adults
  • Breakout room pair practice for conversational exchange and peer reading
  • Live storytelling and proverb discussion sessions for cultural immersion
  • Shared screen sentence-building using digital word cards
  • Choral and paired reading of Etsako passages
  • Spelling bees and vocabulary relay games
  • Final language showcase performance where each learner speaks, reads, and presents in Etsako

Practical Project

My Etsako Language Portfolio

Learners will compile a personal language portfolio showcasing their ability to speak, read, and write in Etsako across the 12-session course. Each learner (or parent/guardian for kids) maintains a growing record of spoken recordings, written samples, and reading exercises that demonstrate progression from basic to confident use of the Etsako language. The portfolio is age-differentiated: Kids create illustrated word books and recorded storytelling clips; Teens produce written dialogues and short essays; Adults compile formal written compositions and recorded conversational exchanges.

Expected result: Learners will have a tangible, age-appropriate portfolio demonstrating measurable growth in Etsako speaking, reading, and writing skills. Kids will produce an illustrated Etsako word book with 30+ words and a 1-minute recorded story. Teens will submit written dialogues, short essays, and a 2-minute recorded conversation. Adults will present a 3-minute spoken narrative and a written composition of at least 150 words in Etsako, all reflecting confident and accurate use of the language.
